It's been a season to forget for the LA Lakers, but they'll have a reprieve when they face injury-hit New Orleans, writes basketball expert Mark Woods...
LA Lakers 1.72, New Orleans Pelicans 2.14 – BET and STREAM live on Unibet TV from 03.35 GMT
Are there signs of life from the Los Angeles Lakers, even if they look pre-destined to end up in the NBA’s Draft lottery?
LA hosts the New Orleans Pelicans on Tuesday with the chance to make it a, wait for it, three-game winning streak following Monday’s remarkable upset of the Portland Trail Blazers.
And although the Lakers home record (10-18) is little better than on the road (11-21), they can point to the boost that the returns of Jordan Farmar and Jodie Meeks from injury have given to a roster that has looked more like a scene from ER.
Of course, it looks likely that Steve Nash’s season – and possibly his career – is over while Kobe Bryant may opt to shut down until the summer with so little to play for.
But their side is managing to put points on the board and they take on a Pelicans team which has lost eight consecutively while scoring only 92.4 on average, over six below its seasonal mark.
With that in mind, the Lakers are great value for the win at 2.04 and worth a punt on the handicap at -7.5 at 3.05 with Pelicans’ All Star Anthony Davis hobbled by a shoulder injury.
Phoenix Suns 2.40, LA Clippers 1.58 – BET and STREAM live on Unibet TV from 02.05 GMT
The other Los Angeles team has much higher ambitions and the Clippers will shoot for five wins in a row when they travel to the Phoenix Suns.
The Clips are -3.5 on the handicap at 1.96 but they’ll need to shut down their hosts who have averaged 122.5 in successive victories, and 114.5 in their last four home contests.
With both scoring freely, look over the total points line of 223.5 at 2.33.
Best bet: Back the LA Lakers on the handicap over New Orleans at -7.5 at 3.05.
