It is make or break time for the Thunder tonight in the NBA play-offs. But would you bet on them coming back from 2-0 down to oust the Spurs?
It’s an often-repeated stat but it holds sway. No team, ever, has come back from a three-game deficit. And such has been the impressive efficiency of San Antonio that it seems improbable that Oklahoma City would defy history if they lost Game 3 of the Western Conference Finals.
The signs aren’t promising either. The Spurs have won 20 consecutive games, a record headed into the post-season. OKC have had two solid offensive games from their scoring trio of Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook and James Harden – and still come up short. Until now, we weren’t sure if San Antonio was just a little better than their rivals. We may have found the answer, which is why they’ve now dethroned Miami as title favourites at odds of 2.05.
But don’t condemn Oklahoma just yet. This is still, arguably, the second best team in the NBA. They’ve still averaged 104.5 points in the opening two games. And back on their home floor, they’re 5-0 in these play-offs.
The Thunder at 5.25 to reach the Finals now seems a risky bet but there’s a better shot on them pulling one back at 2.58. For a safer choice, take the handicap of 4.5 points at 1.91.
Bet of the Day: Take the Thunder to end the Spurs streak at 2.58.
