The heady days of November, when the Brooklyn Nets were off to an 11-4 start and threatening a challenge for supremacy in the East, seem a long way off now. Although they had seven straight wins in January, the new kids on the New York block have been up and down ever since - not what their ownership expected after massive investment last summer.
But Brooklyn have been an effective road squad, winning four of their last five, and they’ll go to Chicago on Saturday night looking to take advantage of the Bulls misfiring offence.
The Nets have seen more life of late from Deron Williams, who has averaged 27 points over his last three outings. The Olympian is available at 1.85 here to score 19 points or more. The Bulls have won 12 of the last 15 meetings between these teams at the United Center but more poor shooting could cost them dear, with Brooklyn an emphatic 23-1 when bettering their opponents’ field goal percentage.
Portland were the surprise packages of the opening third of the NBA campaign, and on course for the play-offs, but just one win from their last nine has dropped the Trailblazers to tenth place in the Western Conference. Not a bad time, they’ll think, to have a visit from the slumping Minnesota Timberwolves, who have dropped their last four games.
They figure to be short-handed again tonight, with Nikola Pekovic the latest addition to their injury list. But they’ve continued to scrap so it’s worth a look at the Wolves on the handicap of +10 at 1.91. But with no interior presence, have a punt on LaMarcus Aldridge to score over 21 points at 1.85, even if he has averaged just 17.3 in his three prior outings versus Minnesota this season.
Bet of the day: Take Deron Williams to score 19 points or more for Brooklyn against Chicago
