NHL Betting: Back the Kings to extinguish the Flames

A good old fashioned Pennsylvania scrap between Pittsburgh and Philadelphia kick starts Wednesday's light schedule.

There will be no lack of animosity at Consol Energy Center, in what is currently one of the NHL's most potent rivalries.

The pressure is certainly on the Flyers to upset here, as they are off the pace, despite crushing the New York Islanders in their last outing.

In contrast, the Penguins are comfortably near the head of the pack and could lead the East by the time this one is done. Sidney Crosby is coming to the fore as well, with seven points in the previous three games. They are short at 1.90, but I'm still tipping a Pens win.

Technical problems with their flight affected St Louis' preparation for their game against San Jose yesterday and it was therefore perhaps not surprising when they lost.

It's not ideal for them to be back at in Denver to play the Avalanche. Colorado's burst of offense against Nashville was unexpected, but once again they were inspired by Matt Duchene who thanks to his dynamism is their real spark.

At this point the West looks the more balanced of the two conferences, apart from the standout Chicago. Significantly more games have gone to over-time and I think we may see another one here. Take the Avs including OT at 2.04. The Blues have steadied, but aren't great value for this one.

Calgary and Los Angeles have both found themselves on the outside looking in, thus far this season. It was expected of the Flames, but not of the reigning champions.

Getting by without their first choice goalie is a challenge for the Flames. They were particularly poor in being shut-out by Phoenix, though do possess a potent power-play when given the opportunity.

With confidence an issue here, the first goal and a possible first period lead will be of huge importance. LA impressed in their most recent effort against Edmonton and I think they can do the same here at 2.35. This is another matchup where fewer than 4.5 total goals at 2.50 is worth a look too.

Best Bet: Los Angeles Kings to win at 2.35
