The Chicago Blackhawks have already failed to repeat the NHL record run of games from the start of a campaign without a regulation loss that they set on their way to the Cup, coach Joel Quenneville can still be more than content with their 3-1-1 start.
They make a visit to Carolina tonight and I can't see them coming unstuck versus the Hurricanes. Carolina's successes have come against teams having unstable starts defensively, they'll get little freedom to load up on the rush against the Blackhawks and, as of yet, they haven't figured out a Plan B. Elsewhere for the 'Canes Eric Staal and Alexander Semin's top line hasn't made too great an impact and their poor plus minus stats show they're being scored on too often as well.
In contrast, Jeff Skinner has slightly disappointed in the two years since his fantastic rookie season but has come out of the blocks fast looking to change that, Skinner has a team leading seven points and seems their most potent threat right now. Unfortunately against Kane, Toews and Co. he's likely to be outmatched, back Chicago's extra quality to show through at 2.00.
Top billing today is reserved for the duel between San Jose and St Louis, two of the three remaining unbeaten clubs in the league. The league leading Sharks continue to not just win games but totally dominate them in all departments, 5 on 5 they've scored 16 goals and given up only four.
Much like the only other perfect team Colorado, these two have three scoring forward lines capable of hurting the opposition but more importantly in form. It's not surprising really when the depth on both rosters means the designated third lines contain the likes of Joe Pavelski for San Jose and Derek Roy for St Louis.
They met twice in 2012-13 and managed to split the games to the road team by a solitary goal so history provides little help when trying to predict. It's a very tough call; though you have to say in comparison the Blues have "only" looked great rather than excellent, I'm not sure San Jose in this mood can be passed on at 3.00.
Best Bet: Chicago Blackhawks to win at 2.05
