The St Louis Blues host divisional rivals the Detroit Red Wings tonight and the outcome could have great importance in determining play-off match ups in the Western Conference. St Louis is very much in the hunt for the President's Trophy whilst the Red Wings are still working to secure home ice advantage, so neither team has an excuse to step off the gas despite already sealing qualification.
Both teams are very strong on their own ice and it is not surprising that the home team has come out on top each time they have met this season. On those five occasions there have not been more the five goals either and that is unlikely to change with both teams being as strong as they are defensively. The Blues should utilise that home advantage and there is good value on odds of 2.02 on less than four goals being scored.
Elsewhere tonight Steven Stamkos is closing in on 60 goals for the season as the Tampa Bay Lightning visit the Montreal Canadiens. This game may have very little riding on it since both teams are out of contention for a play-off spot but the Canadiens are on a poor run right now so the Lightning could well steal a win on the road. At 2.70 you'd get good value on it too.
Stamkos will as ever be a big factor, and having scored 6 goals in his last 5 games he will fancy his chances to add to his scoring totals against this faltering Montreal team.
Best bet: Tampa Bay Lightning to win in regulation at 2.70."
