Pittsburgh Penguins at New Jersey Devils
A victory over the Leafs on Wednesday means the Devils are putting a nice little run together. That same night the Penguins were brushed aside 4-0 by Washington and the strongest criticism that can be leveled at the Pens it's their non performance in divisional matchups. In fact they have one win from the last nine such clashes and that includes a 3-1 loss to the Devils on December 29th which no doubt helped kickstart this recent upturn. Jaromir Jagr had the game winning goal and this is always a pertinent fixture for him, it's also one that the legendary Czech tends to enjoy and even though he might not be the sharpest goalscorer these days I'd still look at the option of Jagr netting tonight.
In the week Martin Brodeur announced his retirement the man who replaced him here in New Jersey continues to impress, since the turn of the year Cory Schneider has won on all but one of his starts. I also like how they're getting Marek Zdlicky more involved as the Devils are a bit short on puck handlers at the blueline. This month the Penguins are averaging over three goals against and aren't getting too much secondary scoring either. I really think the value is with New Jersey here, they have the better form coming in and start way out at 2.90 despite being at home.
Buffalo Sabres at Vancouver Canucks
Poor Buffalo, the Canucks can't miss this chance to win can they? The Sabres have gone through a rotten run of form and are tired after facing Edmonton last night too, before that the loss in Calgary was as routine as they come. I'm not sure where to begin with a team that's edging closer to conceding twice as many goals as they've scored and right now projected first overall pick Connor McDavid looks the only salvation. Dropping two in a row means this that there's even more pressure on Vancouver than usual to take the obvious two points although those games were up against Tampa Bay and Anaheim.
Their best defender Dan Hamhuis is just working his way back after injury and I think the Canucks should have no problem shutting Buffalo down which should compensate for their offence which has been having a tough time. It's an easy choice to add in the handicap but even that only gets the odds up to 1.85.
Best Bet: New Jersey Devils to win at 2.90
