NHL Betting: New York to ground the Flyers

Philadelphia and the New York Islanders continue to trade places at the bottom of the Atlantic as they struggle for any extended period of good results. It's the Isles on this up at the moment after impressive wins against the NY Rangers and New Jersey. John Tavares netted a hat-trick against the Devils to extend a frightening turn of form whilst Philadelphia superstar Claude Giroux continues to be below par. The Flyers' lack of scoring is undermining an offense oriented team, so I'll have to take the Islanders at 2.40.

Both Montreal and Carolina are currently riding three-game winning streaks, but one of them has to end when they collide at the Bell Centre tonight. Carolina in particular have recovered from a so-so opening couple of weeks and another win will give them a healthy advantage at the top of the Southeast. Montreal's division is much more of a dogfight, with four of its teams currently occupying play-off spots, but the Canadiens are more than holding their own. For the most part it's been simple: they make a huge effort each night, and are backed up by Carey Price's consistency in net. But since the Hurricanes have picked up some very good road wins of late they are good value at 2.95.

The Calgary Flames have moved on to Arizona to continue their tour of the southern states after outlasting the Stars in Dallas. At the moment these two teams can expect to be in contention in a couple of months' time but are far from comfortable. Although they are improving, Calgary still possess the worst goals against average in the West so I'd expect a fresher Phoenix team to reel off the win here at 1.95. Look out for big Czech Martin Hanzal - he's been a real handful for all opposition and a big plus for the Coyotes.

Best bet: New York Islanders to win at 2.40
