Philadelphia Flyers 2.60, New York Rangers 2.50
Alternating wins through Game 5 put this series at 3-2 Rangers and the Flyers are fending off elimination in front of their own fans tonight. Whether it gets settled tonight doesn't necessarily factor, however one statistic that heavily favours New York is that almost 80% of teams that win the critical fifth encounter progress to the next round.
Philly's usual response to adversity is to get more aggressive and don't expect anything short of full throttle tonight. They might already be eliminated had New York's powerplay been more efficient, but in big games referees are likely to be a little less hasty on their whistles.
To be fair to them it's not been a heavy hitting matchup in comparison to some of the other quarter finals, their tendency to go to work after the whistle causes most of the trouble and of the Flyers forwards only Michael Raffl is yet to commit a minor. They might do well though to give as few chances as possible to the trio of Martin St. Louis, Derek Stepan and Rick Nash who have been increasingly threatening at even strength and I think it's only a matter of time before they convert that success to the man advantage considering their combined skill.
Speaking of even strength of advantage, only one Ranger is a minus for the series and it's their leading minute logger Ryan McDonagh. That's because he's intentionally seeing an awful lot of Claude Giroux and despite that stat is doing a pretty decent job of containing Philadelphia's captain as well as his linemates.
The job only has to be adequate as New York's other defencemen like Marc Staal and Anton Stralman who are often facing up to the Flyers' lesser units are taking them away completely. It's already happened twice and if goalie Henrik Lundqvist steps up too - odds of 3.20 on the home side to score under 1.5 goals look solid. I've been plugging the Rangers for most of these clashes and believe they've only been outplayed in one of the games up to now, as neither side is any sort of favourite here I'll take NY to put this one into the books.
Best Bet: New York Rangers to win at 2.60
