Philadelphia Flyers – Toronto Maple Leafs
Jonathan Bernier may have been back in the Toronto net on Tuesday against St Louis, but even a solid performance from him couldn't stop his side dropping to a sixth consecutive loss.
In total it's just four wins from 14 since the Olympic break and although Bernier can help stem the defensive bleeding they've got to get back to basics. That one of those victories did come against Philadelphia earlier in the month gives them some hope for tonight.
A couple of tough defeats have Flyers fans perspiring too. For a team which struggles on their penalty kill it can't be ideal that Leafs captain Dion Phaneuf has taken more minor penalties than any other player in the league, the only plus that could come out of that tonight is no club has allowed more shorthanded tallies than the Flyers.
That these are two of the biggest hitting and most ill-disciplined NHL clubs only adds to the fun of the matchup, and expect plenty of big collisions and a lot of scuffles after the whistle out there.
Overall though, Philly are the better special teams outfit and I'll take them over the handicap.
Dallas Stars - Nashville Predators
Home form continues to sustain Dallas in their play-off push and this divisional clash looks imperative, ten games left to play is more than most of their rivals but when you only have two weeks to play them the intensity could take its toll.
With five points to eighth place to make up, the Stars will need to translate that American Airlines Center success to the road at some point. Tonight though, Nashville need to be aggressive on the forecheck and try to neutralise the crowd factor.
Only five players in the league have more powerplay goals than Shea Weber and he has two multi-goal games in the past week, those 100mph shots take serious guts to throw your body in front of.
Although the man advantage has been their fallback all year it's actually the even strength improvement that's yielded their recent success, with 18 total goals in the last four contests.
Seven points out of those eight available must have the locker room confident, and I like the Predators chances including overtime at 2.45.
Best Bet: Philadelphia Flyers to overcome -1.5 goals versus Toronto at 2.65.
