NHL Betting Preview: Capitals to overcome Rangers in regulation time

New York Rangers and Washington Capitals would have been glad of their two days off after Game 3: Wednesday’s match was the longest of the playoffs so far, stretching in to three periods of overtime and totalling almost 115 minutes of play.

Marian Gaborik eventually ended the game with only his second goal of the postseason to put the Rangers 2-1 up in the series. Their odds to go through have shortened to 1.28 as a result but, as their victory over Boston showed, the Caps will not go quietly at 3.50.

Game 4 is a huge one for Washington, who will be in trouble if they lose. The Rangers were in the same good position against Ottawa in round one but failed to take advantage. Winning tonight could save them plenty of trouble.

There haven't been more than 5 goals in a game yet between these two and you can get 1.34 on that being the case again, with odds of 1.78 on fewer than 4.5 total also good value.

You hear the word “desperation” mentioned often by coaches and players alike at this time, and Washington might need that attitude to ensure they don't outfought in this crucial game. The odds on this game are extremely close between the teams, but judging by how these Eastern Conference playoffs have gone so far, it doesn't seem like New York will be allowed to progress easily.

Best Bet: Washington Capitals to win in regulation at 2.60.
