Sunday's early game comes from Detroit, where the Red Wings will pile more misery onto struggling Los Angeles Kings. Led by the always reliable Henrik Zetterberg and Pavel Datsyuk, the Wings have improved of late and a continuation of that today will see them emerge from the chasing pack. In the middle of an extended period of road games, LA just can't seem to put consecutive wins together. Their offence continues to toil badly and was shut out Thursday night in Nashville. At 2.45 the Red Wings are really good value to rack up another victory. LA really need to turn it around but Joe Louis Arena is an unlikely place to do it.
The New York Rangers are another pre-season favourite off the pace offensively and in the standings. At the back they are starting to get a grip, though - especially at Madison Square Garden - so they should start climbing the table soon. Tampa Bay still lead the Southeast but that won't last if their three-game losing streak continues. This is a quick change of fortunes for a line-up that up until a week ago was averaging over five goals a game. Take the Rangers here at 2.10: they won in Tampa eight days ago to start the Bolts' poor run of form.
Chicago remain out in front with room to spare and have shown no signs of slowing down. Remarkably, they've done it despite playing the fewest games at home in the League. A six-game road trip comes to an end at a resurgent Nashville Predators, who have nine points from the last ten available, while not allowing more than a single goal in regulation during that time. As you'd expect it's hard to find faults with this Blackhawks team that still hasn't lost in regulation but the Predators are resilient enough defensively to stop them. Betting is tied at 2.50 so take a look at the tie at 3.70. But I'll stick my neck out for a Nashville win. For that to happen it's probably going to have to be a low scoring game: fewer than 3.5 goals seems unlikely but is worth a look out at 4.40.
Best bet: Detroit Red Wings to win at 2.45
