NHL Betting: Sabres to bare teeth against New York

After last night's results the East's play-off participants are confirmed but seedings aren't yet finalised. The New York Islanders are one of the clubs jostling for position. After losing in Philadelphia last night the Isles have moved on to Buffalo, where the Sabres have had three days off since a surprise win against Pittsburgh. Thomas Vanek had a three-point haul on Tuesday and although he didn't manage to maintain the red-hot form he displayed right at the start of 2013, he has still been Buffalo's go-to guy all season. The Islanders could make some noise in the play-offs, but I think they'll be a little drained tonight. The Sabres are good value here at 2.65.

Minnesota can finally limp over the line with a victory over the Edmonton Oilers, and have the added incentive of being able to avoid the all-conquering Blackhawks in the first round. The Wild have dominated the meetings with their division rivals this season, taking all three by a couple of goals. Edmonton's solitary win in the last three weeks came against the worst team in the West, and only twice through that stretch of ten games have they scored over one goal. At times the Wild have struggled in that department too but the difference in defensive strength is what separates these two when it matters. Take Minnesota to get the win that will seal a play-off spot at 1.72.

Already confirmed as the President's Trophy winners for the team with the best record, Chicago have the opportunity to pad their stats further against Calgary. The Flames may well have played their way out of a top five draft pick with the points they have picked up recently, and they'll be tired after being roughed up in St Louis yesterday. Goalie Miikka Kiprusoff is in line to play his final NHL game. The Finn has been with Calgary since 2003 and is the franchise's all-time leader in wins, so he will get a big send off no matter what. But such is the ruthlessness of this Blackhawks team I can't see it being a positive final night for him. Back a routine Chicago win at 1.62.

Best bet: Buffalo Sabres to win at 2.65
