The dust is yet to settle on Canada's convincing Olympic triumpth but it's immediately back to the daily grind for the NHL and the Buffalo Sabres in particular as they prepare to hit the ice again tomorrow night.

The Sabres would rather forget their campaign to this point and they did have some Sochi success as goalie Jhonas Enroth comes back with a silver medal even without seeing any ice time, Ryan Miller's story with the USA was similar however Zemgus Girgensons and Ted Nolan enjoyed a positive tournament as player and coach for Latvia.

It was also a disappointing experience for the Hurricanes in Russia; Andrej Sekera, Alex Semin and Justin Faulk all returning empty handed, perhaps more relevant to this game is the fact the former two combined for four points when Carolina skated to a 5-3 win last month.

That was part of a strong January for the 'Canes and they might be worried about the break sapping their forward momentum, they sit three points off 8th in the East and maintaining the form that led them to six wins from the last nine would probably see them make the cut.

Their two best offensive players Eric Staal and Jeff Skinner will also be well rested, not many teams will have that same luxury during the run in. The Sabres had lost four straight prior to the break and taken only two of the last thirteen, on a positive note for them their own offence was improving but they are still on schedule to go down as the worst goalscoring team of the century so far.

Aside from their minor successes in Sochi there's no tangible reason suggesting Buffalo can be that much improved from here to the end of the regular season, in fact as the trade deadline approaches. The Hurricanes are the better team and are actually an impressive 13-6 with Anton Khudobin starting in net, take Carolina to seize the two points.

Best Bet: Carolina Hurricanes to win at 2.30.
