Minnesota - St Louis
The Blues survived a frantic finish in Colorado yesterday afternoon to continue their mastery of intra-divisional games, and a record of 17-0-1 is highly impressive considering how strong the Central actually is.
Even though they've felt the full force of that twice already this season Minnesota are in good shape to have a crack at that record despite a five-game winning streak coming to a close in Dallas last night. They aren't the most explosive offensive team though and St Louis' ability to control the puck and the tempo will limit their opportunities.
That's exactly what happened during the previous 120 minutes of hockey during which the Wild mustered a single goal and not a lot of quality chances. Matt Moulson did have an assist on his debut yesterday but their recent wins have been ground out rather than spectacular. Ilya Bryzgalov is set to make his first start too as they tried to find a solution to Josh Harding's injury and Niklas Backstrom's underperformance.
St Louis have regained the honour and could take Anaheim's league. The odds are pretty even so I think they're worth it at 2.40.
Edmonton - Los Angeles
With only one regulation loss to Edmonton from their past 18 meetings as well as currently going six matches unbeaten the Kings are major favourites here.
The Oilers are scrapping to try to get off the bottom of the West, though back to back victories this week did come against beatable Eastern Conference opposition certainly not on LA's level.
At the deadline their goalie carousel continued and when he plays his first game Viktor Fasth will become the sixth netminder used by Dallas Eakins, fortunately though the man LA traded to them Ben Scrivens has nailed down the starter spot with his work ethic and application as well as good play since arriving.
He'll hopefully be fired up to put in a similar performance to his unbelievable record 59-save shutout against San Jose last month.
Out at 3.10 in their own arena I actually think Edmonton are a shot worth taking here but if you aren't convinced it's LA over the handicap.
Best Bet: St Louis Blues to win at 2.40
