The Ottawa Senators are fresh off a much needed win last night, earning their first points of an eight-game road trip six meetings in. New Jersey almost came back from 4-0 against Boston but left themselves too much to do, and are now without a win in eight. Both contests this season have gone the way of the Senators via shootouts, so take Ottawa including OT at 2.20.
Hoping to keep pace in the West are the Dallas Stars, who can make it four straight wins and move back within a point of the play-offs if they can sink Nashville. The Predators have only won once this month and are moving in the opposite direction; they need to resuscitate their dwindling hopes as soon as possible. Lack of scoring is their obvious problem: they rank 29th in goals for and their average is even lower of late. Dallas have beaten some strong teams in their recent run, so are good value at 2.85.
The Phoenix Coyotes made it all the way to the Western Conference Finals last year but have work to do this year. Sat in 9th, they take on the Calgary Flames, who are out of the running and hoping to play spoilers. But the only side they've beaten recently is the only team in the NHL that's worse than them. Coyotes goalie Mike Smith is finding the form that took them through that deep play-off run and is 1.63 to keep the Flames under 2.5 goals. Phoenix are big favourites but still worth backing at 2.10.
Best bet: Dallas Stars to win at 2.85
