NHL Betting: Take Boston to overcome both New York and the handicap

New York-Boston - BET and STREAM live on Unibet TV from 00.05

This is third shot at trying to solve what from the standings should be cannon fodder for Boston, but the New York Islanders have restricted the Atlantic leaders to just a goal in each of their two games this season and sent them home with nothing on both occasions.

As we've seen recently, New York have managed to spark up and it wouldn't be such a surprise to see them come out on top tonight since they've accrued the same amount of points as the Bruins over the course of the last 10 games.

Really the Isles should be coming in off the back of a win, but they couldn't quite hold on in the final 30 seconds to what would have been a great result over St Louis. Old defensive habits are creeping back in and they've actually allowed 21 goals in their last five outings.

What also may swing this back in the B's favour is they seem to be establishing themselves on the road with seven points from eight, with that overtime loss coming at Chicago.

Many would see this as their excellent puck possession stats starting to come to fruition, and I'll take that to continue here as I think New York's hot streak may be winding down.

Pittsburgh-Buffalo - BET and STREAM live on Unibet TV from 00.35

The true Eastern Conference top versus bottom clash will begin 30 minutes later, with Pittsburgh accumulating over twice as many points as the Sabres 50 games into the season.

A shock home loss for the Penguins to Florida last Monday might lead to some temptation to go for the outrageous upset, but that's one of only two losses suffered by them in 2014.

Starting the betting at 5.20, Buffalo have the longest odds we've seen and they've not actually been that bad going back to the start of December in truth.

What hadn't been improved until very recently was their offence, which is being on course to be the worst in decades. However they scored five goals in regulation for the first time this year last time out against Columbus, and had three goals in all five outings before that.

There's very little value in taking the Penguins on so short at 1.52, so the way to go could well be total goals if Cody Hodgson continues to lead by example for Buffalo or Pittsburgh just open up a rout.

Over 5.5 total tallies will net you 2.00.
