New York Rangers vs Columbus Blue Jackets
Signs of improvement from Columbus and a dip in results of the New York Rangers means a win for the Blue Jackets will take them level on points with their division rivals - and that's not the only reason why this contest could be tasty.
There's been a couple of high profile trades between these franchises in the last year or so, meaning there are plenty of players going up against teammates of old. The biggest name among them, Marian Gaborik, won't be available to try and prove a point to the Rangers but Columbus' all time leading point scorer Rick Nash will be looking to haunt the Jackets.
Another former Big Apple resident Brandon Dubinsky powered to a four-point night on Tuesday and is just the type of player to relish this matchup, with Ryan Johansen and Nick Foligno having also played key parts in Columbus' form.
New York's offence fizzled out noticeably in their last couple of outings, registering just the one goal. Before that it seemed like Mats Zuccarello and Brad Richards were doing most of the heavy lifting and that line continued to create opportunities without capitalising, so they may well be the spark.
Their bad run at MSG will come to an end sooner rather than later, though odds of 2.00 aren't great on it happening tonight, so take the Blue Jackets including overtime at 2.35.
Tampa Bay Lightning vs Detroit Red Wings
Places could also be exchanged between Tampa Bay and Detroit as they are both battling hard for and aiming to rebound from defeats last time out.
Tampa took the two points in a tight first contest last month and only the top two clubs in the East have been able to top them at Times Forum this season.
Back-to-back losses versus Florida have stung Detroit when morale was very high and they have also lost a league high eight games in either OT or a shootout, which have often been a consequence of their throwing away of winning positions.
The Red Wings' number of absentees is extending to almost match that of Tampa and it would appear captain Henrik Zetterberg is set for an extended period out because of a back problem, goalie Jimmy Howard and Darren Helm are amongst the others unavailable. Go with Tampa Bay to strike through as their home record remains strong whilst the Red Wings just look to have lost a step this past week.
Best Bet: Tampa Bay Lightning to win at 2.25.
