Caroline Wozniacki booked her place in the final at Indian Wells, coming back from a set and a break down to beat Angelique Kerber. In the other semi-final, Maria Sharapova did enough to ease past Maria Kirilenko in straight sets to reach the BNP Paribas Open decider.
This will be the eighth meeting between Wozniacki and Sharapova, with the latter leading 5-2 and having won the last two. Wozniacki won their only meeting here convincingly - although that was back in 2011.
Both players have a pretty good record at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden, but Sharapova hasn’t won the event since 2006 and lost in the final here 12 months ago to Vika Azarenka, so she will be determined to put her name on the trophy once more.
Wozniacki won this event in 2011 and enjoys conditions here. She has a good record in finals, winning seven of her last ten, but they have tended to come in lower level events. She’s only ever played a top 10 ranked opponent in a final three times, winning one.
Sharapova has played 15 finals lifetime against top 10 ranked opposition and won only four. She’s lost her last three in a row against the top players, but I would expect her to prevail today, although not without a few problems.
Maria is yet to drop a set this tournament but 1.18 looks a little on the short side against a Wozniacki with restored confidence and belief, so the bet is to side with Caro +5.5 games on the handicap at 1.64.
Best bet: Back Wozniacki +5.5 games to beat Sharapova at 1.64
